Rolex is renowned for its luxurious, sturdy and accurate timepieces and the Rolex Sea Dweller is one of the brand’s masterpieces. Launched in 1967, the Sea Dweller was designed to meet the needs of professional divers. Over the years, the watch has evolved several times, incorporating new and advanced mechanisms and watch-building techniques with every released version. The longevity of the Rolex Sea Dweller reflects quality of material and techniques used in designing and building the watch. It is an exceptional timepiece that is bound to preserve its beauty and functionality for several years.
Rolex Sea Dweller and it’s Deepsea variation was designed to improve on various elements of the Submariner that had been released about 14 years prior. An example of a challenge that divers faced with the Rolex Submariner was that its crystal would occasionally pop out after a dive. In building the Sea Dweller, Rolex took measures to ensure that the watch would withstand even greater depths without experiencing crystal pop outs. Since its launch, Rolex has continued to improve on the Sea Dweller, enhancing its functionality, longevity and aesthetics. Fitted with a helium escape valve, the Rolex Submariner immediately became a prominent diver watch.
Sea Dweller’s dial is one of its most outstanding features. Responsible for readability, elegance and identity of the watch, the dial is designed and crafted to bring out the true beauty of Sea Dweller. It is black in color and is donned with hour markers that are stylishly made from 18 karat gold that is tarnish resistant. To ensure perfection and beauty of the watch, Rolex designs and crafts the dials in-house. They are handmade by some of the world’s finest craftsmen. “Sea-Dweller” is imprinted on the dial in red as a reference to the first model of the collection. For readability, the dial comes fitted with prominent Chromalight hands and hour markers. They feature luminescent material that gives a long-lasting glow. This makes them easy to read under various light intensities, especially under dark conditions.
The watch boasts of a ceramic unidirectional rotatable bezel that is 60-minute graduated. It is designed to ensure precision and safety when divers monitor their decompression and dive times. The black Cerachrom bezel insert of the watch that is produced by Rolex is virtually scratch proof and is resistant to fading or tarnishing due to ultraviolet rays.
Rolex invested quality and style on the bracelet of the Sea Dweller. The solid link oyster bracelet is designed for comfort and efficiency, holding sturdy on the wrists of the wearer. The safety Oysterlock clasp protects the watch from accidental opening. The length of the bracelet can also be adjusted courtesy of the double extension system. This is a feature to allow divers to wear the watch over their diving suits of up to a thickness of 7mm.
The watch comes with an oyster case that guarantees waterproof to an underwater depth of to 4000 feet 1,220. The watch also features a trip-lock winding crown that is also designed to ensure that the watch is waterproof.
